Diode type: Schottky type for better efficiency
Reverse voltage: VR of the diode must block VOVP voltage (20 V recommended)
Forward current: the diode’s averaged rectified forward current IF must handle the output current since IF = IOUT (2A recommended as conservative approach, 1A sufficient for lower output current).
Thermal characteristics: the diode must be chosen so that it can dissipate the power (PD = IF × VF, 500 mW should be sufficient for most of the applications)
